What ages is Little Loaf Labs for?+
Ages 5–12. Every lab has three levels: picture-based observation for ages 5–8, measurement and graphing for 8–10, and variables and baker’s percentages for 11–12. Siblings can work through the same lab together.
Is it a subscription?+
Yes. You start with the one-time Starter Lab, which holds the reusable equipment, the Field Journal, and the first three labs. Monthly Labs then bring a new experiment each month. You only buy the equipment once.
Is the starter really alive?+
Yes. The Starter Lab includes a live sourdough culture with feeding instructions. Watching it bubble and rise is the heart of Lab 001. We’re finalizing the packaging and shipping method during prototype testing.
What if our starter stops bubbling?+
Starters are forgiving. The parent guide has a troubleshooting page, and starter refills will be available as an add-on.
Does my child use the oven?+
No. Kids measure, mix, fold, shape, and decorate, and a grown-up handles the oven and hot pot. Every lab clearly marks the steps that need an adult.
Do I need a Dutch oven?+
The first-loaf recipe bakes in a Dutch oven or another lidded oven-safe pot, which isn’t included. We plan to offer one as an optional add-on.
Can we pay with charter instructional funds?+
We’re applying to become an approved vendor with California homeschool and independent-study charters. Each school runs its own vendor and purchasing approval, so availability varies. Add your school’s name when you join the waitlist and we’ll prioritize it. Charter details →
Does it contain allergens?+
Yes, it contains wheat. Little Loaf Labs isn’t suitable for anyone with a wheat allergy or celiac disease.
Can I get an extra Field Journal?+
Yes. Every Starter Lab includes one journal, and extra journals will be sold separately for siblings or additional students.
When does it ship, and how much is it?+
